From time to time, I will copy an old master's painting, much like a musician will perform or record an old master's classical piece of music. This Pre-Raphaelite painting of Rossetti gave me good practice with soft tonal transitions -- much harder with acrylic than oil.

This painting came together in my mind after watching these clouds form as the sun was setting. I had no camera or sketch book with me , so I hurried home to sketch out the clouds and field. I added the horse for a second element of power and beauty.
